How We Research

Updated on

Every guide on My Bidets starts with one question: will this seat suit the person who is shopping for it?

A seat that looks perfect but doesn't fit the toilet, or needs an outlet you don't have, is a costly mistake. So fit comes first.

Here is how we work through it.

1. We start with your bathroom

The toilet shape, the space beside it and the water and power already in the room shape the shortlist.

An elongated bowl, a skirted toilet and a bathroom with no outlet by the toilet each point to different seats. When your bathroom limits the choice, we say so up front.

2. We compare specs and features

We check what the maker lists: the bowl shapes the seat is made for, how it heats water, whether it has an air dryer, how it is controlled and what comes in the box.

We also note the warranty terms. Kohler, Bio Bidet, Brondell, TOTO and the other brands describe their seats in their own words, so we name the brand for every claim.

3. We look at buyer feedback

We read what buyers report after fitting a seat. We look for patterns, like a seat that doesn't line up with the bolt holes, a remote that is hard to read or water that runs cool.

One unhappy review doesn't sink a seat. A repeated complaint does.

4. We score each product

Our score weighs specs, features and buyer feedback against what you're shopping for. A seat that suits one buyer well may score lower in a guide written for another.

Scores spread out on purpose. A 10 is rare.

5. We keep pages current

Makers change model names, colors and bundles often. Several brands sell near-identical seats with different model codes, so we check each name and code before we write about it.

When we update a guide, the "Updated on" date at the top changes with it.

What our picks are not

Our picks are research, not lab tests. We don't claim to have fitted or used every seat we cover.

Our guides don't replace the maker's setup instructions. For outlets, water lines and connections, follow the maker's steps, and ask a plumber or an electrician if you're unsure.

We make no health promises about any bidet seat. When a maker makes a claim, we label it as the maker's claim.
